5K run, proceed to an 8.5 mile bike ride, and finish with a 100 yard
swim.
- The attached map shows the run and bike routes
in different colors.
- Triathletes, please note: The bike

is a change from the previous years.

your usage. Restrooms are also located in the pool area.

equipment in the transition area (bike, Helmet, shoes, etc.)
- All Triathletes must have their number marked
on their body with a felt marker. Those that refuse will not be
timed at the finish.

number with a pull tag on the bottom. The red number is to be worn
during the run. The pull tag is to be pinned on the inside of the
clothing you swim in. Without it, you will NOT be timed. DO NOT LOSE
ANY OF THESE!!.
- A lead vehicle will lead the beginning bike
riders. Police officers and volunteers will stop all traffic at
intersections along the course. When on city streets you must be in
the correct traffic lane. You are riding with the flow of traffic.
Slower riders may find that other vehicles may also be using the
traffic lanes. Be cautious and stay to the right.
- No assistance is allowed with the equipment,
in the transition area or on the course.
RUN
- The route for the 5K run starts in a westerly
direction on a concrete walkway through the campus. Shortly after
the 1 mile mark, the router turns onto a dirt pathway back in a
easterly direction. Stay on the path as there may be danger of
rattlesnakes in the underbrush.
- Follow the path around the northern edge of
the campus you will turn south until you enter North Park Blvd. Stay
in the bike lane on North Park and re-enter the campus at Coyote
Drive. Follow this road to the north end of parking lot G.
- For 5K runners Only: The finish line is
to the right of the bike rack area as you are re-entering the
campus.
- For Triathletes: Enter the bike rack
area, change into the appropriate riding gear and head west through
the campus – the same beginning route as for the 5K run.
BIKE:
- You are to place your bike in the Bike rack
area BEFORE the race.
- Hard helmets are
MANDATORY! YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED if you ride
without a hard helmet.
- The bike route follows the same route as the
5K run for the first mile. However, instead of turning on the
dirt path as the runners did, go a little further to the
intersection, turn right and head towards Devi’s Canyon.
- You must travel on the same side of the road
as regular automobile traffic. Be careful as there is a blind at the
top of the hill. Watch your speed coming down the hill.
- Avoid drafting – Absolutely NO car drafting!
- Traffic will be stopped at intersections upon
your APPROACH only, so please be cautious of side streets.
- After circling around Devil’s Canyon, you will
re-enter the campus between lots B and C Use caution both because of
the sharp right-angle turns, and speed bumps on campus.
- Stay on the northern edge of parking lot C.
You will zigzag back onto the sidewalk portion just prior to the
dormitories.
- Continue east back towards Coyote Drive. Stay
to the right as slower participants may just be starting out on
their bikes.
- At Coyote Drive prepare for a hard right turn
out the campus to North Park Blvd. Always stay in the lane with the
flow of traffic. Caution: There are speed bumps on Coyote
Drive.
- At North Park turn left and head to Electric
Avenue, Where there will be a turn-around.
- Return on North Park Blvd to Coyote Drive;
turn right back onto the campus. Be alert for the possibility of
slow runners. Return the bike to the transition area and proceed to
the swimming pool.
SWIM:
- Jump into the pool, DO NOT DIVE. Zigzag your
way through the maze (Approximately 100 Yards).
- When you exit the pool, pull your registration
tag out and hand it to the official.
- The triathlon ends at this point.
